How to Play

How to Play Mahjong Solitaire

Match open pairs, clear the Turtle layout, and manage the board so each move opens more tiles instead of closing the game down.

The Basic Goal

Clear every tile from the board by matching pairs. Most tiles must match by exact symbol. Flowers can match any flower, and seasons can match any season.

The board is built in layers. A good move should remove a pair and reveal more playable tiles underneath or beside it.

What Makes a Tile Open?

A tile is open when no tile is sitting on top of it and at least one horizontal side is free. If both the left and right sides are blocked, the tile cannot be selected yet.

Visible does not always mean playable. If you click a blocked tile in the game, it will shake lightly to show that it cannot be used.

Using Hints

Hints point to an available pair. Before your first successful match, hints do not reduce your score. After the game starts, each new hinted pair can reduce points, but repeating the same hint does not add another penalty.
