Tips for Better Mahjong Solitaire Scores

Good Mahjong Solitaire play is about creating options. The best pair is often the one that opens the next two or three moves.

Clear Height First

Pairs on upper layers are usually more valuable because they unlock hidden tiles. If two moves look equal, choose the one that lowers a tall stack.

Open the Long Edges

The Turtle layout can lock when long horizontal rows stay blocked. Removing edge tiles gives more pieces a free side and increases open matches.

Do Not Rush Flexible Pairs

Flower and season tiles are useful late in the round because they match by family. Save them when another exact pair can solve the same position.

Use Hints as a Check, Not a Plan

A hint can confirm that a move exists, but it may not be the best strategic move. Repeating the same hint is free, but new hints after the first match can reduce score.
